Tropical LUAU introduced a slice of island life to Trinidad Carnival.
From humble beginnings in the backyard of Raj’s house in Valsayn to the lush, vast Green Meadows Estate Tropical LUAU Carnival is the epitome of your Tropical Fete.
Tropical LUAU Legacy
Tropical LUAU was a concept developed by Ken Sambury for his friends Akeem Prout and Keith Tyson in August 2010. The concept pushed the envelope on the regular party experience, adapting a Hawaiian theme and embracing the sunset on a Sunday at a time when no one had parties on Sundays.
Throughout the years, EEEmpire along with different collaborators such as Play 365 and Hunters Promotions hosted Tropical LUAU pool parties as the event that was the culmination of the “summer”.
While planning these, EEEmpire directors Stefan, Ken and Armani gained five years of experience breathing life into this “LUAU” concept. Each time they would overcome significant tribulations consistently giving patrons hours and hours of vibes.
Introducing a Carnival Fete
For the fifth and final installment of the Tropical LUAU pool party; EEEmpire ended this epic event series on a high note on September 1st, 2014.
After two years of dormancy, armed with new skills and human resources Tropical LUAU Carnival was created. Now held annually on Carnival Thursday in Trinidad Carnival, this Tropical LUAU is a new event series focused on introducing visitors to an excerpt of life in the tropics. Building on this, Tropical LUAU also encourages Trinidadians to challenge the status quo and take their Carnival feting to a new, tropical atmosphere as opposed to the ‘car park’ type venues where fetes are usually held.
Carnival Thursday is Now Tropical Thursday
Our first installment of Tropical LUAU was everything we dreamed of and much more!
The Tropical LUAU Carnival venue is one of the most beautiful in all of Trinidad. This scenery brought patrons up close and personal with unique flowers and a garden fit for a king. The sun set and peeked through the trees creating the perfect backdrop for an evening of food and excitement.
Following this you are greeted by the sounds of Boom Boom Room, talented drummers hailing from the mountains of El Dorado. They would go beyond their regular routine playing timeless rhythms in perfect sync with the Soca baseline.
As if the ambience was not enough, a slew of talented A-class artiste graced the stage. Shenseea, a recent collaborator with Nailah Blackman, Bunji Garlin and Vybz Kartel had the ladies and gents equally calling for more.
Our very own Sekon Sta and his Soca Squad commanded the soca session. In their set many artiste including 5 Star Akil, Ricardo Drue, Chromatics and College Boy Jesse performed.
Just when everyone thought the show was finished Iwer George appeared and soaked the party with one bottle of water; or maybe everyone was soaked because of so much jumping, we may never know the truth. Iwer George got THREE encores. It was like a dream.
In a moment of sheer Tropical LUAU deja vu Shomari and Selecta Kerry delivered an unforgettable set pushing the party till 1am.
Tropical LUAU was the appropriate closing to our campaign of bringing back jump and wave to Carnival 2018.
Short pants, leis, loose waist and flexi back – Carnival Thursday is now Tropical Thursday.
